Wireless LAN is a product of the combination of wireless communication technology and network technology. From a professional perspective, wireless local area networks (WLANs) are used to achieve communication between network devices through wireless channels, and to achieve mobility, personalization, and broadband communication. Generally speaking, wireless local area networks (WLAN) provide Ethernet connectivity without using network cables. Wireless LAN technology can easily connect network devices wirelessly, allowing people to access network resources anytime, anywhere, and at will. While promoting the development of network technology, wireless local area networks are also changing people's lifestyles. Upstream of the wireless LAN industry chain are equipment suppliers, network operators, and terminal providers.
The middle reaches of the industry chain are portal operators and content/application providers, while the downstream industries are the distribution channels and end users of the network. With the wide application of wireless communication technology, traditional local area networks have become increasingly unable to meet people's needs, so wireless local area networks have emerged and developed rapidly. Although currently wireless local area networks cannot be completely independent of wired networks, their products have gradually matured in recent years and are playing an increasingly important role in network applications due to their superior flexibility and convenience. Today's broad application prospects, broad market demand, and technical feasibility have promoted the improvement and industrialization of wireless local area network technology, which is also being confirmed by the commercialized 802.11b network.
With the commercial use of 802.11a networks and the continuous development of other wireless LAN technologies, wireless LAN will usher in a golden era of development. In the 5G era, with the emergence of emerging technologies such as AR/VR, AI, and unmanned driving, the explosive growth of terminals has put forward higher demand for networks. The characteristics of 5G, such as large bandwidth, low latency, and low power consumption, can to some extent replace some application scenarios of wireless LAN. However, wireless LAN still plays an irreplaceable role in building independent production, office, and service environments, and achieving hierarchical network management.
In the medium term of 5G commercial use, the expenditure on terminal equipment and telecommunications services from users and other industries continues to grow. It is expected that by 2025, 5G networks will cover 40% of the population, and China will become the largest market. In 2025, the number of people enjoying 5G in China will account for one-third of the global total, reaching 430 million people. 5G will benefit almost every industry. By 2035, 5G is expected to create goods and services worth up to $12.3 trillion in a wide range of industries, and the new opportunities created by 5G will far exceed those of 3G and 4G.
Faced with such a good development prospect, China should vigorously promote the research and practical application of wireless LAN technology, and seize the opportunity for the development of wireless LAN. This will not only greatly promote the development process of national informatization, but also provide great opportunities for China's information industry and communication market to enter the international market.
